Fiber-based fine art enlargements

FB or fiber-based is a B&W printing paper without a resin coating that absorbs moisture through the light-sensitive emulsion that becomes saturated in the cotton fibers, doubling processing times to allow the developer to activate the deeply-embedded light-sensitive emulsion.

Resin coated hand-made enlargements

RC, or resin-coated is a B&W printing paper with a water-resistant plastic coating that absorbs less moisture than uncoated paper, consequently reducing processing times. RC is perfect for head shots, work prints, or photos going straight to print or the web. RC is recommended for web work because it scans well due to it’s high gloss nature. However, RC is not recommended for archival purposes because of the potential instability of the polyethylene that coats them.

toning

Toning increases the life and secures the archival qualities and chemical properties of the print. Although B&W photographs are the most archival & permanent of all printing papers and are guaranteed with proof from the 1800’s, the silver in an image can deteriorate over time in the same way silverware tarnishes. A toner increases the stability of the print by combining it with a more stable substance.

contact sheet

Contact sheets are vital tools when cataloging negatives for storage. They allow you to quickly reference which negatives you wish to enlarge; a careful selective process difficult to handle without a light box and especially without a contact sheet. Contact sheets are also very important for your clients; as they assist in the decision making process of which negatives to have enlarged.

matting

Matting is a significant addition to the finished print. Not only does a mat present a print nicely while handling or in a frame, it also protects the image from fingerprints. We offer custom cut archival acid free cotton rag board matting.

restoration

We have a soft spot for archival photographs and are extremely passionate about preserving them. We want them to last throughout the generations, much like the photographs we still have today from the 1800s. This is why we offer an archival restorative process. The digital era of photography has assisted in this process, allowing us to manipulate an image on the computer, yet produce a high quality negative with which to print from.
